Col. John Jackson Ledbetter Jr. San Antonio, Dallas, Austin

JJL begins the year receiving retirement pay of $284.37 a month from Veterans Affairs. He resigns from the IBC and considers graduate school at Michigan and Texas. He enrolls in SMU School of Law in Dallas on the GI Bill.

Dallas

He buys a house at 3226 Amherst for $11,750 in April. Jack Wallace is named best drilled cadet at Dallas Tech High on May 18.

The TSPE Offer

In June, Andy Rollins offers JJL the position of Executive Secretary of the Texas Society of Professional Engineers at $7,500 a year. He accepts on June 27 and discontinues his law course at SMU. The family moves to Austin on July 4 and buys a house at 2007 Hopi Trail.

Loss

Leonora’s father, L. W. Lackey, dies at Nix Memorial Hospital in San Antonio on October 28. Funeral at Porter Loving’s, interment at Sunset Memorial Cemetery.
