Col. John Jackson Ledbetter Jr. Austin

A year of physical and personal crisis. JJL enters Brackenridge Hospital on February 9 with tremors. He is released four days later.

Robert Gordon Ledbetter

On February 27, a grandson:

Grandson Robert Gordon Ledbetter born at St. David’s at 5:00 a.m. to Jack W. and Gerry Ledbetter.

Surgeries

JJL enters Brooke General Hospital in San Antonio on March 23. On April 12, he has a Trans Urethral Resection (prostate surgery). Bleeding and complications follow through May. A hernia operation (right side) follows on May 25. He is released June 1.

His office at the Austin Hotel floods in June when a fluorescent light fixture burns out. He moves to 203 East 2nd Street.

AA

On March 30:

This evening attended 1st meeting of AA. Met with & joined Group 12 — SA Tex.

JJL is admitted to Austin State Hospital on September 16. He is released September 26. His wife Neva moves out to the Commodore Perry Hotel. The diary records the dissolution with characteristic brevity: “Very poor reception.”
