John Jackson Ledbetter II

John Jackson Ledbetter II was the first child of Jack Wallace Ledbetter and Iris Geraldine Amick, and the first grandchild of Col. John Jackson Ledbetter Jr.. His grandfather recorded the early-morning phone call on July 19, 1954:²

Jack W. Ledbetter called from Norfolk about 5:50 a.m. Reported that son John Jackson Ledbetter II, wt 6 lb 9½ oz born in Norfolk at 4:51 a.m., EST, 3:51 a.m. CST.

Leonora had traveled to Norfolk on July 5, “to be a grandmother.”²

Family

He first married Trisha Hamilton. He later married Paula Hines on November 1, 1974, in Odessa, Texas. Their daughter Melinda Grey Ledbetter was born on May 19, 1988.¹

Death

John Jackson Ledbetter II died on March 19, 1990, in Austin, Texas, at the age of thirty-five.¹
