Iris Geraldine Amick

Iris Geraldine Amick married Jack Wallace Ledbetter on September 3, 1952, in Austin, Texas.¹ Known as “Gerry” in the family, she and Jack had four children during his naval career.

Children

Their first child, John Jackson Ledbetter II, was born on July 19, 1954, in Norfolk, Virginia, while Jack was stationed there. JJL recorded the call from Norfolk at 5:50 a.m.: “son John Jackson Ledbetter II, wt 6 lb 9½ oz born in Norfolk at 4:51 a.m., EST.”²

Leonora had traveled to Norfolk in early July to “be a grandmother.”²

Robert Gordon Ledbetter followed on February 27, 1960, at St. David’s Hospital in Austin. JJL recorded the arrival: “Grandson Robert Gordon Ledbetter born at St. David’s at 5:00 a.m. to Jack W. and Gerry Ledbetter.”³

Brenda Jean was born on November 22, 1961, at 1:00 a.m. at St. David’s, weighing seven pounds.⁴ Glenn Andrew, the youngest, arrived on February 24, 1963 — just five months before JJL’s death that July.¹

Later

Jack and Gerry’s marriage ended, and Jack later married Bille Vaughn Bailey on November 25, 1979, in Austin.¹
